Yes, I said wars...because here, like in India, there are two wars: One against a group that wants a strict utopian paradise under the laws of Islam and the other one a strict utopian paradise under the communist party.
In the first, the good news is that an Abusayyaf Group (ASG) member who took bomb making material onto a superferry is being indicted.
Basilan is now cleared, with only a few marines staying behind to watch the roads.
And reconstruction aid is pouring in.
But on the other front, the Dutch arrested long time Communist party leader Sison for murder.
The left is crying "Torture", the reason? He is being held in a prison where the Nazis tortured people...no evidence of course but that's par for the course.
In the meanwhile, two NPA (communist insurgents) camps have been deserted and the Philippine Military have destoyed a third.
Oh, Gloria is still in trouble (i.e. president Arroyo) for corruption. But even Rosales, the bishop of Manila is saying let it pass to a new "hello Garci" probe, in which a voice sounding like Gloria discusses stuffing the ballot box during an election.
The next hurtle for the Philippines is the verdict on ex president Estrada AKA Erap.
The joke in the Philippines is that he is probably the only president that was truly elected by the majority, but he was removed by the Manila elite for corruption.
If he is convicted, expect riots. If he is not convicted, expect outcry about being removed from office.
The consensus is that ERAP will be convicted and then pardoned quickly. Must move on.
